Advent

That word may be familiar to you—or perhaps it’s new. Advent comes from the Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival.” It marks a beautiful season when we intentionally prepare our hearts and wait expectantly for the birth of Christ, our Savior. It also represents us waiting for Jesus’ return. We wait with hope.

My prayer for you and your family as you journey through this daily Advent devotional is twofold:

First, that you gain a deeper understanding of the significance of Advent. While the word itself isn’t found in Scripture, the season offers us a meaningful opportunity to pause and reflect—not just on the lights, parties and gifts, but on these themes of Advent: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love.

Second, I pray this season invites you to linger on those four words, not only in personal reflection, but also through conversations with family and friends.

This devotional has been prayerfully crafted for you and your family by the grace and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Each week focuses on one of the candles of Advent—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love—and includes Scripture readings,a daily devotion, reflection questions, quotes, poetry, a few recipes I created (and tested), and a mid-week family craft or activity to help center your heart on each day’s theme.

I have also included a song pick for each day. This song was picked because the lyrics speak to and go hand-in-hand with that day’s devotion. I encourage you to listen to them after reading.

As you dive into these pages, may your hearts make room to see and hear the beauty of this season—a beauty that goes far beyond Christmas morning.

Glory to God in the highest,

Raelyn Pracht
