Palm Sunday
On the Sunday before Easter, we celebrate Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. This is often called “The Triumphal Entry”. Jesus is greeted with shouts of, “Hosanna!”, the crowd laid down their jackets, and pulled palm branches from the trees to wave in celebration. This is a day when we remember Jesus is King, but we always celebrate knowing he is the servant King who while entering Jerusalem is headed to the cross for us.
This year Palm Sunday falls on March 28th and we will celebrate it during our regular worship time at the Georgetown Community Center - Meet in the Sunken Gardens Weather permitting at 10am.
Maundy Thursday
On the Thursday after Jesus enters Jerusalem he institutes the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
On this same night, Jesus would once again show that he came to serve. He would bow down and wash the feet of his disciples. This is why we call it Maundy Thursday. From Merriam-Webster:
Middle English maunde, from Old French mandé, from Latin mandatum command, order; from the words spoken by Jesus to his disciples after washing their feet at the Last Supper.
We will celebrate Maundy Thursday at 6:30pm on April 1st at Matt and Deanna Doering’s house. Bring a brown bag dinner for you and your family along with chairs for the backyard. We will end with a time of worship and communion together.
There will be no livestream of Maundy Thursday Worship from Narrative Church. If you are looking for a Maundy Thursday livestream check out our friends at Praise and Worship in Branson, MO.
Good Friday
It may seem strange to call it Good Friday as this is the day that we remember the death of Jesus. But, it is good for us. On this night we remember that,
…while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 5:6/8
Pencil in Friday, April 2nd at 6:30pm for a time of worship, remembrance, and the message that Jesus died for us.
Good Friday Worship will be online only, links will be live on that day.
